Abstract: The paper deals with experimental studies and modelling regarding the lateral concrete pressure on vertical formwork exerted by Self-Compacting-Concrete (SCC). On the base of the Silo-Theory by Janssen [1] a new calculation concept for the lateral pressure on the formwork was developed and verified.
The required time-dependent model parameters were determined in extensive experimental tests series. An extra designed testing machine allowed the determination of the friction between the fresh concrete and the formwork surface as well as the friction between the fresh concrete and the reinforcement. Further the placing process was simulated and the ratio between the lateral pressure and the exerted vertical pressure determined. The influence of the mixture design as well as external impacts and the formwork deformation on the model parameters was investigated.
Published full-scale measurements prove the validity of the model in principle. For the practical calculation a proposal was given and partial safety factors calibrated.
