Abstract: Many different types of fillers and admixtures are increasingly used in SCC. Among them, pfa, limestone powder, ggbs and superplasticizer are well known and the effect of their on macro-properties of concrete have been widely reported. Other fillers/admixtures, such as, quarry dust, nanosilica, meta-kaolin and viscosity-modifying agents are less familiar, and in particular, the impact of their use on microstructure development and micro-mechanical properties in paste and interfacial transition zone in concrete has rarely been studied and understood. This paper reports a preliminary investigation using nanoindentation test on micro-mechanical properties of SCC containing some of these less familiar fillers and admixtures.
