Abstract: This report presents the use and experiences with Self-Compacting Concreted in the Consolis SAS Group which is the largest manufacturer of precast concrete in Europe.
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) has been used in Consolis Group since 1999 and is currently in regular use in most Consolis plants and its volumes are rapidly increasing. SCC is used mainly for the manufacturing of beams, columns, walls and special elements. The annual use of SCC in 2006 exceeded 300 000 m3 and made up about 35% of all concrete production in Consolis with flowable concrete. Most experiences have been very positive. There also exists a plan for a plant designed only for SCC-use and it will look quite different from the current ones.
Vibrated concrete will not be completely replaced, but SCC is already now the dominant mode of manufacture and will become even more so in the future.
We now have SCC - the old times will never be back!
