Abstract: Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) are being increasingly used to facilitate construction operations. Such concrete should be optimized to account for variations in workability due to ambient temperature. SCC workability has been shown to be highly dependant on temperature, elapsed time, and type of high-range water reducing admixture (HRWRA).
Variation of rheological properties of SCC during the dormant period of cement hydration is shown to depend on the interaction between the HRWRA, material temperature, and the advancement of the hydration reaction. of their rheological behavior, depending on the HRWRA. Therefore, in order to enhance concreting conditions of SCC, it is essential to gain better knowledge of the variation of the plastic viscosity (µ) and yield stress with time and temperature. A simple method to study the variation of these rheological parameters of SCC through their corresponding micro mortars is proposed in this paper. Micro mortars, extracted from SCC, were prepared with water-to-binder ratio (W/B) of 0.53 and tested at various temperatures ranging between 10 and 33°C. Test results indicate that the values vary in different ways with time and temperature depending on the type o HRWRA in use.
