Abstract: Writing a concrete specification for a large infrastructure project is a look into the future but also a look into the past. How can the requirements in the specification secure a lifetime of 100 years ore more and how can the maintenance and repair costs in the lifetime be reduced as much as possible. Shall new innovations and research results be introduced in the specification or shall old fashioned and safe technology be the basis? Can standards made by "house builders" be used for tunnel and bridges? Experience from projects like the Danish Great Belt Bridge and the Danish-Swedish Øresund Bridge is evaluated. The requirements for the Danish-German Femern Link are still under preparation and will not be discussed.
