Abstract: In this paper critical review has been carried out concerning the maturity method and its application. Special attention has been paid on the Dutch Weighted Maturity Method. This paper is specially prepared as one of the chapters in the state-of-the-art report of RILEM Committee TC ATC (Advanced testing of cement based materials during setting and hardening). The maturity is generally defined as a function of hardening time and hardening temperature of concrete. Since the last several decades different maturity functions have been proposed. In the first section of this chapter, the backgrounds of those proposed models have been reviewed. In the following section, the relation between the maturity and the compressive strength has been discussed. In the third section the practical application of the maturity approach in the practice has been dealt with.
