RILEM Webinar: Corrosion and electrochemistry of steel in concrete

The third ROC&TOK webinar will take place on Thursday, April 1st at 1PM UTC time (GMT+0) and will be one hour long (30-minute presentation + 30-minute interaction).

Hosted by Professor Ueli Angst, Durability of Engineering Materials Research Lab, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, the webinar will address the following subject: Corrosion and electrochemistry of steel in concrete.

Corrosion of steel in concrete is a longstanding challenge in both science and engineering. The seminar will give an update on the socio-economic impact of corrosion of reinforced concrete, and review corrosion science fundamentals relevant for the understanding of steel corrosion in concrete. The focus will be on the steel-concrete interface, taking into account the complex interrelations of microstructure, moisture, transport processes, and the electrochemical behavior of the embedded steel. Finally, latest advances in the field will be presented and discussed to highlight opportunities for scientific research in addressing urgent societal and technological challenges.
