Second International RILEM Conference on Earthen Construction

The First RILEM International Conference on Earthen Construction (ICEC 2022) was hosted by the Université Gustave Eiffel in March 2022. The conference was organised and delivered by members of RILEM TC 274 TCE: “Testing and characterisation of earth-based building materials and elements” to disseminate the findings of that TC and to recruit members to the three new TCs which emerged: RILEM MAE, PEM, and BEC (all Cluster E).
The Second ICEC will provide a forum to present work on a wide range of topics related to earthen construction, building upon the work of TCs MAE, PEM, and BEC whilst also encouraging submissions from outside of those activities. The conference aims to attract new members to the RILEM TCs, to broaden the global network of earthen construction researchers, and to identify opportunities for future research or TC topics. Contributions from authors on the following topics are encouraged:

  • Material characterisation
  • Hydro-mechanical behaviour
  • Reinforcement behaviour
  • Seismic behaviour
  • In situ and field testing
  • Quality control
  • Additive manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Rheology
  • Scale effects
  • Biostabilisation
  • Molecular simulation
  • Physical chemistry
  • Microstructure
  • Durability
  • Fire performance
  • Hygro-thermal behaviour
  • Air quality
  • Life cycle analysis
  • Climate change adaptation
  • Economic impacts
  • Cultural history and architecture
