The XVIII International SIIV Summer School will be devoted to the topics concerning the knowledge related to “Sustainable Pavement Design and Road Materials”. Pavement sustainability refers to the impacts of pavement on environment, economy, and society, which involves material selection, design, construction, as well as preservation strategies. Sustainable pavements are highly dependent on the selection of appropriate materials, since road materials have significant effect on pavement durability, material usage, transportation safety, life cycle cost, maintenance strategy, environmental impacts, and so on. In recent years, an important part of the research has been devoted to the development and evaluation of advanced road materials for sustainable pavement design, construction, and maintenance. However, sustainable pavement involves a wide range of issues to be investigated, and many of them have not been solved yet.
The XVIII International SIIV Summer School will last 5 days, from September 5th to Semptember 9th 2022, and will involve lectures from several distinguished international speakers, among which RILEM members. In between lectures, the Summer School will involve some technical workshops, where the most innovative and sustainable technologies for road pavements will be presented by leading companies of the sector. The Summer School will also host the 7th SIIV ARENA, the PhD Symposium where PhD students are welcome to propose their work in progress research. The Scientific Committee will select the abstracts for the presentation (that will take place on September 9th, 2022) and publication in the SIIV ARENA proceedings. SIIV will assign four awards based on the following criteria: best experimental activity, best technological impact, best innovative idea and best methodological approach. Additionally, the course will end with the 2nd Workshop “in itinere” of PRIN 2017 research project "Stone Pavements. History, conservation, valorisation and design". Course Dates, frequency : The course will last 5 days, from September 5th to September 9th, 2022. The location will be Villa Doria d'Angri, a neoclassical mansion located in Via Petrarca 80, Naples, Italy.
Target group : PhD students from all over the world are welcome to join the XVIII International SIIV Summer School. The participants should have a scientific background in the field of road materials and pavements. The expected number of students is above 25.

Objective : ECTS system is not applicable, but the knowledge transferred to PhD students will be evaluated at the end of the course through a Final Test.
Cost – special costs : The registration fee for PhD students and young researchers is 600 Euro (in single room accommodation) or 500 Euro (in shared double room accommodation).
