Dr Mohammed Sonebi FCIT
 
We are proud to share the news about our RILEM senior member, Dr Mohammed Sonebi, who was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT) by the ICT council. Dr Sonebi is the RILEM Regional Convener for the Middle East & North Africa region. He is also the Chair of RILEM TC 266-MRP: Measuring Rheological Properties of Cement Based Materials. Dr Sonebi is a Senior Lecturer at School of Natural and Built Environment of Queen’s University Belfast (UK). His research interests include 3D printing of concrete, rheology, self-compacting concrete, bio-based building materials, nano-technology, use of industrial and solid waste materials and durability.

China’s carbon neutrality by 2060
 
Late in September this year, China has announced its commitment to end its contribution to global heating and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Considering that China is the biggest producer of greenhouse gases in our planet, this news is fantastic! But how is the cement and concrete industry going to be affected by this new Chinese initiative? The discussion between Europe and China to work together on this matter has started, but this partnership has a long way to go!
