Calcium carbonate concrete
This is a project from the University of Tokyo, Japan, that takes inspiration from the way some aquatic organisms harden into fossils over time. The research is based on the acquisition of calcium from discarded concrete which is combined with carbon dioxide from industrial exhaust. Image courtesy of Maruyama et al.
