Abstract: Thin-walled TRC elements are prone to quick heating when they are exposed to fire. The question is discussed how TRC elements behave under standard temperature exposure. An overview is given about the strength-temperature relation of various materials such as glass, aramid and carbon. Whereas most of these materials soften at 400 °C carbon is stable up to a temperature of 900 °C. Tests are described which are carried out on TRC elements. They show the expected behaviour, i.e. glass reinforced elements fail after about 45 min. whereas carbon reinforced elements withstand a fire up to 75 min. It is concluded that the fire behaviour of TRC has to be investigated more widely.
