Abstract:
Cement bound material has been used in pavement design since many years. Asphalt surfacing on cement bound base tend to suffer from reflective cracking at the location where the base materials naturally crack and then undergo movement due to temperature difference. A linear thermoviscoelastic modeling of cement bound base pavement, exhibiting thermorheologically simple behavior, is introduced in this paper. A new numerical approach, based on the finite element method, is proposed and allows to take into account effects caused by the coupling of viscoelastic and thermal characteristics.
