Abstract:
The paper develops a complete analysis model to study the behavior of asphalt overlays on existing pavements or semi-rigid bases when the underlying course contracts uniformly. The concept of 'strain reflective coefficient' is introduced, which reveals the mechanism of opening reflective cracking resulting from contraction. Furthermore, the paper discusses the specific formulas in consideration of the interlayer, the frictional resistance force between the underlying course and subgrade, and asphalt overlays with partial reinforcement.
