Abstract: Service Life Prediction (SLP) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are two descriptive
disciplines with an ambition to being prescriptive tools towards sustainable construction.
Experience shows, however that there is often a gap between real Data and real Decisions.
After discussing the reasons why both disciplines can be taken together in trying to solve this problem, a description of the elements and operation of the Data - Decision interface is elaborated on the basis of findings from sociology, decision and communication sciences.
This step constitutes the premises towards an improvement of current SLP and LCA frameworks in decision contexts.
