Abstract: Regarding the usual planning situation, the structural system of a building has got to be adapted to changing constraints several times. The structural engineer, like all other involved building professionals, does not have much time for his redesign phases. While designing complex structures, it is even difficult to recognize al1 affected parts.
In recent times, communication has been improved by the use of computer networks. New technologies to transfer objects between different applications, computers and operating systems like CORBA or DCOM have been developed. They do not only provide objects with communication services, they also allow to combine different objects to new applications.
