Abstract: In the building process al1 requirements and decisions made concerning the building (including building productsJ production, uses of land-, materials- and energy-resources) are directly related to their environmental impact. These decisions should be viewed as interrelated, as one choice will affect the whole system. Therefore, if is necessary to encompass environmental impacts during al1 aspects of a building's design.
Many tools have been developed at VTT Building Technology to aid the assessment of the environmental impact of buildings at various levels. These can include evaluation of individual building products, the building as a whole, or an entire industry.
