Abstract: A methodology to evaluate an existing structure by probability based analysis is applied for a damaged bridge column. The change of safety index from the original state, to the present state defined by inspection and after future predicted degradation is determined by a combination of Monte Car10 simulation and reliability analysis.
The result shows that despite apparently heavy damages the reduction in safety is rather moderate after 32 years. Reliability based evaluation can be a very useful tool as a basis for decision about damaged structures and strategies for repair and inspection.
