Abstract: In the Netherlands, uncertainty about the environmental effects of stabilised/solidified hazardous waste materials is one of the bottlenecks in recent waste management. Therefore, a decision support system (DSS) is designed, containing the tools: environmental load (for insight into the global and time independent ecological effects, like energy consumption and use of primary materials) and long term leaching (for insight into the local and time
dependent leaching of hazardous components). This DSS is evaluated by assessing industrial purification sludge bound with cement and melted/crystallised sewage sludge. The evaluation makes clear that the decision making process can be helped by objective evaluation methods and data.
