Abstract: Sustainable development in housing requires a substantial decrease in al1 environmental effects associated with the construction, use, maintenance, renewal, and finally demolition of dwellings. High level recycling and reuse are essential elements of any strategy designed to reduce environmental impact. In principle, many building parts are suitable for reuse; in practice, implementation lags far behind. Different obstacles have been identified which can influence wider application, including financial, logistical, juridical, cultural and technical aspects.
