Abstract: The consequence of the collapse of power poles can be catastrophic. The failure of wood power poles can be attributed to a combination of different factors, including material degradation, wind loads, unbalanced loads. The deterioration of the wood at ground level, coinciding with the maximum bending moment due to senlice loads, is the major concern.
This paper attempts to propose a method to quantitatively assess the life cycle performance of wood power poles, which contains two stages: (1) the wood poles deteriorate and (2) the poles are subsequently reinstated with a steel reinforcement system. Data from current investigations and inspections of wood poles and reinstatement systems are examined.
