Abstract: RC members have deteriorated for reasons such as salt attack, alkali-aggregate reaction, carbonation and freezing-thawing action. Thus, RC members are not maintenance-free and measures are needed fo counter deterioration. This paper deals with deterioration using a probability approach and focuses on corrosion of bars caused with salt attack. Some items are considered to be controlled by a logarithmic normal distribution. A Monte Car10 simulation method is adopted to calculate the amount of corrosion. Calculation results are as follows: (1) cover of bars and diffusion coefficient of chloride ion greatly influence the amount of corrosion, and (2) the larger tne chloride ion on a concrete surface the larger amount of corrosion and the lower the influence of time on corrosion occurence. Furthemore, an appropriate time for repair work is suggested based on surface crack width in consideration of probability of 50%.
