Abstract: This paper presents a damage model for interaction between a macroscopic crack and the microscopic damage ahead of its tips. A damage variable that represents the fraction of original cross-sectional area occupied by voids is introduced to account for microvoid accumulation in the vicinity of the crack-tip. A bridge component loaded in Mode 1, with a remote cyclic stress, is studied. The effects of initial crack size, final crack size and cyclic
stress level on the bridge senlice life are assessed and found to be in good agreement with Paris power-law for fatigue crack growth.
