Abstract: The efficiency of structures should be assessed from the complex point of view of material and energy flows within the whole life-cycle with respect to the environmental requirements.
The complex formulation of the optimization problem should include environmental aspects such as the minimization of embodied CO2, minimization of embodied SOa and minimization of embodied energy. These minimization principles represent basic and most important ecology requirements. The significance of use of recycled materials replacing natural non-renewable sources is evident. The theoretical approach and case study of environmentally based optimization of the composite waffle and ribbed floor slab structure is presented.
