Abstract: An analytical mix design procedure based on a volumetric approach has been developed since several years by the Belgian Road Research Centre. This procedure has been converted under the form of a software PRADO (PRogramme for Asphalt mix Design and Optimisation) and is currently used in practice in Belgium. Initially developed for continuously graded mixes, this procedure has been generalised and validated for a wide variety of mix types.
This paper will deal with the most important improvements recently introduced:
· prediction of complex modulus from rheological properties of the binder (pure or modified),
· prediction of mechanical properties and performances of a mix, based on its composition and on the properties of the binder,
· possibility to include one or several types of reclaimed asphalt into the mix,
· conversion of the DOS-software to a more user-friendly Windows version,
· possibility to include natural binders containing fines.
