Abstract: The capability and durability of asphaltic plug joints - a new kind of expansion joints in bridge and road building - are tested in germany in a performance related way. In accordance to the technical rules (ZTV-BEL-FÜ) the fundamental suitability of the starting materials as well as the complete system has to be tested. With this contribution a special attention is focused on the operational test procedures of the complete system. The fundamental methodology for the development of selected system test procedures is introduced, the tests itself are explained and the performance-related informations of the system features are discussed.
