Abstract: Of all the properties of fiber reinforced concrete, its impact and blast resistance are some of the least understood. There have been sporadic attempts in the past, but the lack of a standardized testing technique and the general complexities involved in testing concrete under impact have often impeded the progress. Further, for a complete understanding of dynamic fracture in the case of a complex, strain-softening material like fiber reinforced concrete, processes at various levels of fracture need to be understood and modelled. In this paper, a progress report is provided of our current understanding of dynamic fracture in fiber reinforced concrete with emphasis on bond-slip responses, crack growth resistance and the engineering properties. Finally, areas where further research is needed are identified.
