Abstract: An overview of the response of highly ductile fiber-reinforced cement-based composites (DFRCC) to cyclic loading in both tension and compression is presented. Reversed cyclic loading is uncommon for cementitious materials and there is limited research reported in this area. A brief discussion of related research is presented along with more detailed experimental data for a DFRCC material referred to as Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC). The effect of different types of cyclic loading on ECC's compressive and tensile strength envelope was examined. The cyclic loading test results identified a unique unloading and reloading response for this ductile composite. Reversed cyclic loading appears to affect the tensile response of the material if the uniaxial compressive strength during loading is exceeded and does not affect the tensile response if the compressive strength is not exceeded.
