Abstract:
The carbonation of concrete not only decreases the ductility of concrete, but also disadvantages the aseismatic performance of structure. In this paper, the authors present the tests in which the reinforced concrete beams are carbonized through artificial accelerated carbonation conditions so as to obtain the ultimate loads of carbonized beams. Based on the test, a comparison of the flexural deformation performance between carbonized and uncarbonized beams is made. Furthermore, the carbonized reinforced concrete beams are simulated with the ANSYS definite element program. The results indicate that the ultimate load of carbonized appropriate reinforced concrete beam is 15% higher than that of the uncarbonized beam, and the ductility is somewhat lower.
