Abstract:
At present, it is difficult to ensure the structural durability in practice. The reason is that there have been no quantitative parameters which can express the concrete durability. In fact, concrete durability deterioration always shows the process of micro-cracks growing in concrete, which are caused by certain damage stresses without a doubt. So, in essence, durability deterioration can be regarded as the mechanical damage course, in which the damage stress is aroused by the non-mechanical factors. It is very meaningful that the durability deterioration under the influence of non-mechanical factors is described with mechanical method. In this paper, freezing-thawing, a kind of typical non-mechanical factor, is studied. A mechanical model of frost durability deterioration is put forward on the basis of the theories and methods of damage mechanics, and then, parameters of the model are defined, which can reflect the frost durability correctly. The research may provide a reference for other types of durability deterioration to establish mechanical models. With the aid of these models a designer could make decisions on the required dimensions and material specifications for structures with a service life requirement. Furthermore, the research is valuable to durability evaluation and service life prediction of concrete structures.
