Abstract:
An accelerated corrosion method for steel bar in concrete was developed; the process of corrosion using the method is close to the corrosion process under natural environment. The experiments including rebar corrosion, expansion in concrete under unrestrained condition and then application of converse compression are carried out. The expansion multiple of rust products, stress- strain model and modulus of deformation about rust layer are determined, the stress and strain relationship shows bi-linear model in which the turning point is defined as the compaction point. The slope at pre-compaction point in the model indicates the deformation modulus of the rust layer; the slope at post-compaction point shows the same modulus as the concrete. Another Corrosion expansion tests under tropical climate condition and corresponding numerical simulation analyses were carried out for calibrating the model of mechanical properties of the rust layer.
