Abstract:
Corrosion exacerbation often occurs in patch-repairs of the corroded reinforced concrete. In this paper, three repair materials (normal cement concrete, SBR modified cement concrete and epoxy resin concrete) were applied to the patch repair of carbonated and chloride contaminated specimens. The results of the experiments indicate that the real reason leading to the corrosion exacerbation in original concrete is the imbalance potential between original concrete region and repair materials region. The increasing extent of the corrosion currents at the interface between repaired and original part in SBR concrete repaired specimens is less than that of normal cement concrete repaired specimens. The epoxy resin repaired specimens show no corrosion exacerbation. The steel bars in repair materials region do not corrode in all the three kind of specimens.
