Abstract: 
Concrete structure strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) bands is a new retrofit method in the field of civil engineering. The ten 100mm×200mm section and 1200mm long rectangle section RC beams were divided into three types: the first series (D) were three beams strengthened with CFRP bands, and then loaded up to failure; the second series (E) were three beams preloaded up to 30% of ultimate load and uninstalled, and strengthened with CFRP bands ,and then loaded up to failure; the third series (F) were three beams preloaded up to 30% of ultimate load and locked into place, and then strengthened with CFRP bands before resuming the loading up to failure. A control beam with no CFRP bands was tested to failure as comparison purpose. Based on experimental results, the paper presents a calculation formula for RC beams strengthened with CFRP bands. Comparing with experimental data , the calculated results show good agreement.
