Abstract:
Nonlinear analysis is applied to obtain the ultimate axial capacities of steel encased concrete columns. Reliability theory is further used in the analysis of the influence factors of the ultimate capacity. After analysing relationship between distribution coefficients aof concrete section and reliability index ß, the united f curve for the design of steel encased concrete columns under axial loads and reinforced concrete columns was obtained on the assumption of reliability index ß=4.0. The optimal steel area ratio(rhô)ss=5 to 15 % for steel encased concrete columns under axial loads is suggested. The design of the steel encased concrete columns may benefit from these works.
