Abstract: 
During the construction of tunnel, the cost of the reinforced concrete structure constitutes a large proportion of the total cost. An optimizing design model is set up to improve the design quality and work efficiency and to save engineering investment. The model is based on the basic theory of Lagrange Multipliers method of inequation restricting optimizing problem. It takes as aim function the minimum cost of the unit length of the reinforced concrete structure and chooses as restricting condition the requirement of tensile strength and compressive strength that play controlling roles according to the forced property of tunnel structure. Moreover, the relevant calculation formulas are deduced and the optimizing model is solved in this paper. Then the model is adopted to analyze a certain engineering example and make comparisons. The results indicate that the model set up in this paper is a simple and efficient design method. Meanwhile, the results also show that engineering investment will be saved and remarkable economical benefits will be brought out if the reinforced concrete structure is optimally designed.
