Abstract:
This paper presents an experimental and theoretical investigation on the shear behavior of L-shaped high-strength concrete columns subjected to axial compression and external lateral load. A total of nine specimens with L-shaped cross sections were tested. The following main experimental parameters are investigated: (1) shear span to depth ratio; (2) axial compression ratio; (3) loading angle; (4) ratio of stirrup; and (5) concrete strength grade. The general behavior of the specimens in the test is described and analyzed in the paper. A suggested design formula is finally proposed and compared with the test results. The coincidence of calculated results with test results proves that the suggested formula can meet the engineering design requirements.
