Abstract:
To develop more effective ways to carry the loads of concrete-filled steel tubular structures, three new types of CFST joints, which could be termed as middle joint, side joint and corner joint respectively, are developed in the paper. Vertical bearing capacity test and low-cyclic reverse loading test were performed to confirm the effectiveness of these joints under vertical loads and earthquake loads. At the same time, the characteristics, failure mechanism and seismic behavior of the joints are also discussed in the paper. Results show that these types of joints are effective, reliable and practicable. Three-dimensional finite element analysis on the joints is also made, the results of which proves the validity of the experiments. Design methods on the joints are proposed according to the conclusions of experiments and calculations.
