Abstract:
An analytical procedure is developed to derive the stress-strain curve of concrete from flexure tests. The procedure is applied to concrete specimens with rectangular cross-section tested under the neutral axis position controlled. It can be shown that in such condition if the relationship between the average compressive stress and the most compressive strain is represented by a polynomial equation, then the stress-strain relationship of concrete can also be another polynomial equation of the same order. Since the neutral axis depth is not necessary to be kept within the depth of the cross-section, this procedure can be used to analyse both plain concrete and confined concrete specimens. Test data done by the authors were used to compare this procedure with some existing ones. The results showed that the flexural stress-strain curves of concretes obtained from the procedure proposed in this paper have smaller fluctuations and are more representative than those obtained previously.
