Abstract: Besides the aspects of the mix proportions, the concrete properties and the quality assurance, which were thoroughly examined in several research projects, a definite statement concerning the formwork pressure when casting Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) has not been made up to now. In different publications there are hints that the formwork pressure decreases considerably when, in comparison to vibrated concrete, SCC is applied. But there are also hints that with high rates of placement of the concrete hydrostatic conditions are reached. The causes for these very different results have not definitely been clarified. For the user of SCC, the question of the formwork pressure is of utmost importance. Therefore, investigations were carried out where walls, size 3.51 × 0.24 × 3.30 m³, with a device to measure the formwork pressure were concreted at different rates of placement and with different placing methods (from top / from bottom). In this paper the results of these investigations are presented.
