Abstract: The influence of mixing efficiency on the properties of fresh cement paste was studied considering the difference of type of superplasticizer, a polycarboxylic ether based one (PC-type) and a naphthalene sulfonate based one (NS-type). The experimental result clarified for both types of superplasticizer that a larger mixing energy makes a cement paste less viscous, but the mixtures with NS-type consumed much smaller electric energy during the mixing than the mixtures with PC-type. It is estimated to be based on the difference of dispersion mechanisms. Moreover, it was found that PC-type works to reduce both the yield value and the viscosity of cement paste rheologically, but NS-type reduces only the yield value and does not influence the viscosity so much as PC-type when mixing procedure is constant.
