Abstract: The homogeneity of tunnel walls and elements made in the laboratory was examined. Cores were taken from three tunnel walls made of SCC and compared to cores taken from a tunnel wall made with conventional concrete. In the laboratory several elements with different size and shape were cast using SCC and conventional concrete. Compressive strength and bulk density were measured. The standard deviation of the values from the different structures and their spatial distribution were compared. In general the homogeneity of the structures made with SCC and conventional concrete is about the same at a scale of decimetres and meters. Segregation reducing the homogeneity occurs in the walls made with SCC and conventional concrete. The results indicate that the use of SCC is advantageous when the shape of the formwork makes it difficult to vibrate the conventional concrete.
