Abstract: Two tunnel segments were cast with self-compacting steel fibre reinforced concrete. A long and a short type of steel fibre were applied at a fibre content of 60 kg/m3. The production process and the appearance of the elements are reported. Sixty cylinders were drilled from the segments; deformation-controlled splitting tensile tests were carried out and slices were sawn from cylinders in order to take X-ray photos. The orientation of the fibres was determined and related to the performance of the cylinders in the splitting tensile test. It is shown how the flow of the steel fibres affected the orientation and the mechanical characteristics of the SCFRC in the tunnel segments.
