Abstract: Self-compacting lightweight concrete is particularly suitable for the retrofitting of building structures. During the pumping of such concretes the employed porous lightweight aggregates absorb a certain part of the concrete's fines paste, which often results in a blocking in the conveying line. Within this research project the governing mechanisms for this absorption process have been investigated. Therefore pumping tests on concretes with various types of aggregates and correspondingly different specific weights were carried out and the development of the rheological properties of fresh concrete during the pumping was determined.
