Abstract: Consolis is the largest manufacturer of prefabricated concrete elements in Europe. The company has 50 factories and operates in 11 countries. Presently SCC (Self-Compacting Concrete) is in regular use at nine factories, mainly for the manufacture beams, columns and walls. The annual use of SCC has exceeded 20 000 m3. Depending on the local conditions, several different materials have been used: different types of cement, fly ash, silica fume, limestone filler, natural filler, crushed recycled concrete, crushed stone and natural gravel. Among the brands of super-plasticizer there are several alternatives to choose between, in some cases viscosity agents have also been used. And what is important: in most cases the present materials available at the factory can be applied. Most experiences have been positive: the casting work is faster and easier, compacting around the dense-located reinforcement is perfect, and the surfaces are good. In some cases there have been problems with the sensitivity of SCC to variations in the moisture of aggregates and the fineness of cement and filler, which has resulted in an increased surface porosity. The benefits are still so remarkable that the future prospects for SCC are very promising.
