Abstract: The benefits from adapting the SCC- technology in construction of highway structures can be described in terms of improved working conditions, improved concrete surfaces and easier and safer casting in low-access regions of the structures. This paper gives an overview of the implementation process of SCC in some projects in the Bergen-area. Implementation of SCC gives new challenges to both the ready-mix companies and the contractors. Improved quality assurance in all stages of the production is very important in order to gain full advantage of this new technology. Special attention should be given to mix design and control of the properties of the SCC, including the development of flow ability over time, stability and aspects of thixotropic behaviour. Discussions of casting techniques are also included.
