Abstract: BM Valla ehf's main research effort has been to make self-compacting concrete more economical and feasible for the market.
The result has been the development of self-compacting concrete of different grades, ranging from highly workable and high-priced to lower-priced and moderately workable, as well as concrete with varying maximum size and strength aggregate to suit different uses. This development has resulted in more customers choosing self-compacting concrete from BM Valla ehf. Concrete that is only about 10-15 % higher in price than normal C25 concrete has gained in popularity, particularly where slabs are concerned.
The document describes different concrete qualities and their use. Furthermore, it describes changes in methods for mixing, transporting, quality control and placing techniques resulting from the use of self-compacting concrete instead of normal concrete.
