Abstract: A strongly reinforced structure with considerable dimensions can be obtained with the combination of Self-Compacting Concrete properties, together with a mix-design, carefully studied to reduce the heat of hydration. The mix-design was perfected by using tests to verify the rheological properties, whereas, in order to estimate the (delta)°T of the inside and outside of the cast, finite element simulations were used. In this way, it was possible to cast 500 m3 of concrete with lower heat hydration, without using any external compacting energy. Some of the main advantages include: simplified site procedures, reduction in time and labour, greater quality and longer life of the structure.
