Abstract: The fast developments of algae on concrete facings of various constructions damage their aesthetics. Now, in a time when the architects more and more often adopt the solution of concrete for the finish of facades, the professionals of concrete industry can only wonder about remedies bring there.
However, before testing in laboratory the various parameters of composition (nature and dosage in cement, aggregates and additives) and of application of concretes (nature of the formwork and demolding agent) being able to intervene on these growths, it is important to develop techniques of analyses of the colonized areas, simple and reproducible.
This article presents the advantages and the inconveniences of three complementary techniques used at the LMDC during a research initiated by ATILH (French Technical Association of the Industry of cements) on the proliferation of algae on concrete:
- the first method, non-destructive, allows to estimate the covered surface by image analysis;
- the second method, also non-destructive, allows to estimate the intensity of the covering of algae per spectrocolorimetry;
- the third method, which is destructive, is based to the measure of chlorophyll a.
