Abstract: In this paper, a novel evaporation retardant prepared from the amphiphilic molecules is sprayed on the plastic mortar surface to reduce the water evaporation and improve the surface properties. It is pointed out that the continuous and dense monolayer formed by amphiphilic molecules self-assembly could effectively reduce the water evaporation on the plastic concrete surface. The other performance of the evaporation retardant on the mortar was also discussed in detail, such as the change of the capillary pressure, plastic shrinkage in horizontal direction, compressive and flexural strength. The results showed that the evaporation retardant could delay the time when the capillary pressure beginning to increase and decrease the plastic shrinkage without decreasing strength.
