Abstract: Preliminary pilot study of an ongoing research project called “Aging of Cementitious materials for Storage of Nuclear Waste” is presented in this paper. Longevity analysis of concrete structures when dealing with nuclear waste management subject concerns predictions for thousands of years. In order to decrease the risk of extrapolating short term experiments a chemo-mechanical coupled modeling approach is used in this study. Preliminary investigations are focused on laboratory methods for accelerating the aging process in order to gather useful information for further modeling of natural ageing process. Chemical leaching and electrochemical migration tests are explained in this paper. X-ray diffraction method is used to analyze the results. Results show that proposed tests can effectively accelerate the leaching of portlandite.
